Key To My Heart

Like a runaway train
Off the track and out of control
Fell into a ditch,
then into a hole.
Knee deep, sliding
Off the slope
Can't keep on hiding
Sure can't cope.

You were here
Now you're gone
Thought I had everything
What the hell went wrong?
Swore I heard your footsteps
On the porch today
Thought I heard your voice
A million miles away.
Called you on the phone
Only got a dial tone
Guess you don't have
Anything to say.

You held the key to my heart
All that's left is ripped apart
It's getting colder
I'm growing older
And it seems like the loneliness
Is here to stay.

Guess you can't fix a flat
That's not there
Guess I can't change the fact
You don't care.
It's a bad dream
A nightmare it seems
But the pain's real
And my heart
Has a permanent tear.

Why can't I get it right?
What happened to simple pain?
How did this get so tricky?
And when did I
Become so plain?
I've tried to reach out to you
I've called to you by name
You think that I mislead you
At least that's what you claim.
Only I know the truth
And this is all a part
Of your game.

You held the key to my heart
All that's left is stripped apart
It's getting colder
I'm growing older
And my loneliness is here
To stay.

You claim that I've hurt you
But I'm the one going insane.
I watch you from the shadows
And feel, as my heart strains,
To reach out and touch you
And gently say your name.

You held the key to my heart
Now the loneliness is here to stay.
