Chameleon

I look in your eyes
And see a painful distortion
Of what I once knew
To be there.

Memories fade slowly
Pink to gray to black
Like a chameleon
Constantly changing
You never seem the same.

A hidden truth
Beneath a mask
Torments you anguished soul
What tragedy you encountered
Remains hidden still.

When darkness falls
Do you shudder under
Closely drawn covers?
Once closed do your
Drawn eyelids bring forth
Dragons or beautiful mermaids?

Are you're nights filled
With magic and mystery
Or do you cringe
And embrace the morning.

I see you desire
And I hear your words
But I see no truth
Nor do I hear it
Band-Aids® do nothing.
